Batik Bear - Zipper Pouch Sale

Growing up, my mom sewed our Halloween costumes every year. My dad was in the military, so kids would swarm the streets of the base from 5 PM to 10 PM, collecting pillow cases of candy. I'm sure it's different now, but I kind of hope it's not.

Two costumes were my favorite. When I was seven, I was a princess. Not a Disney princess with a pink tutu or even a princess with a giant gown. We lived in southern California at the time, and I can remember visiting fabric shop after fabric shop with my mom, looking for just the right fabric for a princess. We settled on a blue satin with a gold pattern. I loved it because it came from lots of creative time spent with my mom. Even though I couldn't define it then, it was exciting when she let me in on her creative process--let me into her world. As a mom to my own daughter now, that gives me something to chew on.

The second costume that comes to mind is *wait for it* my teacher costume when I was about 10. I had a dowdy skirt, what my dad would call BCGs (Google that if you don't know what I mean), and a long wool skirt. It's sad now to think that was my mom's vision of teacher fashion, but then again, it hasn't been too many decades since school marms were forbidden from dating, so maybe I should call my costume "historical school marm" and not teacher.

I don't have images of the teacher or princess, but here's me at six as a scary clown and below at about seven after playing dress up with my mom.

When I turned 27, my mom gave me a sewing machine for my birthday. Since, sewing has become a major hobby. In 2011, I started an Etsy shop and then put it on hold when the school year ramped up. I recently relaunched the Esty shop with just 10 one-of-a-kind zipper pouches. In honor of my week of pre-planning, if you order one this week (M-F), shipping is free! I'd love to collect a few reviews and hear your honest feedback before I work on a second ten! Here's the link to the zipper pouch coupon code for my shop.

The length on this dress might be short depending on your school.
